TWO MEN CREATING HAVOC – AND DELICIOUS DISHES – IN THE KITCHEN

Sharing a passion for quality ingredients and creativity in the kitchen, Roddy Munro and Ùisdean Macleod join forces in a new series on BBC ALBA, The Kitchen Coves / Seòid a Chidsin, to enthuse amateur cooks everywhere. Roddy and Ùisdean from the islands of Harris and Lewis respectively, like to relax with a hot stove, a sizzling barbeque, a sharp knife and the chemistry of creatively combining ingredients to make the most of them.

In a brand new six-part series for BBC ALBA this pair, who are accustomed to being top dog in their own kitchen, take on the challenge of working together in a shared space. Differences of opinion about chopping techniques, flavour combinations and high-tech versus low-tech all help to raise the temperature in this kitchen!

In the first episode, Ùisdean returns to his fishing roots, sourcing some of the fantastic fish and shellfish for which the islands are renowned. Roddy, raised on the croft in South Harris, heads back to Harris where he will learn how they make local venison sausage, the main ingredient in one of his signature dishes - venison sausages braised in red wine with pancetta and button mushrooms.

Each programme in this new series takes a theme, or a specific ingredient, inspiring our two culinary explorers to create a variety of dishes. They cater for the family day out and prepare a sumptuous barbeque and a Saturday night curry. They learn how to use a food smoker and prepare Pastrami and Smoked Salmon. Ever adventurous they cook with alcohol, creating a delicious Mojito Cheesecake and “Coq au Can”, chicken cooked on a beer can! With locally sourced produce they go American style and make New England Chowder and a Jambalaya. Side salads, dressings and a variety of accompanying sauces all feature to complete their culinary creations.

Seòid a Chidsin – The Kitchen Coves is produced by Moja and can be seen on BBC ALBA, starting from Wednesday 22nd March at 10pm, followed by five further episodes on consecutive Wednesdays.
