ICONIC ‘THE LITTLE PRINCE’ CELEBRATES HIS 70TH BIRTHDAY WITH AN ANIMATION FOR BBC ALBA

Seventy years since the first ‘Little Prince’ novel was published, BBC ALBA is delighted to bring the only UK broadcast of an animated version of the adventures to our screens.

‘The Little Prince’ (Le Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is one of the most loved and most read books in the world. These charming stories and adventures have been translated in several languages. Now, produced by Solus Productions, ‘The Little Prince’ has found his Gaelic voice.

Star of BBC ALBA’s ‘Dè a-nis?’ Derek MacIntosh voices the title role of ‘The Little Prince’ while Tony Kearney - formerly from BBC Scotland’s flagship drama ‘River City’ - voices his trusty side kick ‘The Fox’.

Derek MacIntosh

Derek said: “I grew up reading ‘The Little Prince’ stories as a child and now getting to be the voice of the Prince is fantastic! I’m delighted that BBC ALBA are screening a Gaelic version of this world famous story that the whole family can enjoy.”

Tony added: “It’s fantastic that ‘The Little Prince’ can speak Gaelic! I loved recording the voice of The Fox - they are quite a double act. The Foxes’ dry sense of humour and turn of phrase made a seamless transition into Gaelic. As Scots and Gaelic speakers, it makes us very proud to be part of this global narrative.”

The Little Prince / Am Prionnsa Beag, produced for BBC ALBA by Solus Productions, airs every Monday at 6.40pm until 5th August 2013 and is also available on BBC iPlayer.

AN SGEULACHD AINMEIL ‘AM PRIONNSA BEAG’ A’ CÒMHARRACHADH TRÌ FICHEAD ’S A DEICH BLIADHNA A DH’AOIS LE SREATH DE PHRÒGRAMAN AIR BBC ALBA

Trì fichead ’s a deich bliadhna bhon chaidh a’ chiad leabhar ‘Am Prionnsa Beag’ a chlò-bhualadh, tha BBC ALBA air leth thoilichte an sgeulachd ainmeil seo a thoirt a dh’ionnsaigh luchd-amhairc BBC ALBA ann an riochd ùr, cartun.

Tha an sgeulachd àlainn seo stèidhichte air an annas-làimhe de Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Airson a’ chiad uair a-riamh anns an rìoghachd seo, cluinnear na sgeulachdan ainmeil aig A’ Phrionnsa Bheag agus anns a’ Ghàidhlig. Tha na sgeulachdan air a bhith air an eadar-theangachadh gu na ceudan de chànanan. A-nis, fo stiùir Solus Productions, tha am Prionnsa air Gàidhlig ionnsachadh.

’S e an guth aithnichte aig fear de rionnagan ‘Dè a-nis?, Derek Mac an Tòisich, a chluinneas sinn mar Am Prionnsa fhèin. Ri thaobh, tha an cleasaiche Tony Kearney, a bha anns an dràma ainmeil aig BBC Scotland, ‘River City’, a’ toirt thugainn guth a dheagh charaid, an Sionnach.

Derek MacIntosh

Thuirt Derek: “Nuair a bha mise òg bha mi air mo bheò ghlacadh le stòraidhean a’ Phrionnsa agus a-nis tha mi air mo dhòigh glan a’ faighinn cothrom an guth aig a’ Phrionnsa a chlàradh. ‘S e tha seo ach sgeulachd a chòrdas ris an teaghlach air fad”.

“Tha e dìreach mìorbhailteach gu bheil Gàidhlig aig a’ Phrionnsa! Chòrd e rium gu mòr guth an t-Sionnaich a chlàradh - ’s e paidhir dha-rìribh a th’ annta! Mar Albannaich agus Gàidheil, tha sinn cho pròiseal ‘s a ghabhas a bhith nar pàirt de sgeulachd a tha cho fìor ainmeil air feadh an t-saoghail...” thuirt Tony.

‘Am Prionnsa Beag’, air a riochdachadh às leth BBC ALBA le Solus productions, a h-uile Diluain aig 6.40f chun 5mh latha den Lùnastal 2013 agus ri fhaotainn air BBC iPlayer.
