BBC ALBA CHILDREN’S DRAMA NOMINATED FOR RTS SCOTLAND AWARD

BBC ALBA has earned a nomination at this year’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Scotland awards for quirky children’s drama Rùn.

Rùn (Private Pet) tells the wry and heart-warming story of a mischievous deaf boy whose world is transformed by a four-legged friend who becomes the "ears" he never had.

The prestigious RTS Scotland Awards are the gold standard of achievement in the television industry, recognising excellence across programme making and broadcasting skills.

The programme is nominated in the Children’s category, and features a talented first time deaf actor, Cieran, alongside two of the best known faces of Gaelic screen, Carina MacLeod and Calum MacKinnon.

Incorporating Gaelic and BSL (British Sign Language), the short drama will be shown across Europe as part of the wider European Broadcasting Union (EBU) scheme.

The programme, produced by Sorbier Productions from Glasgow, received funding from the new Young Audience Content Fund (YACF), which is managed by the British Film Institute (BFI).

Patsi MacKenzie, director of Sorbier Productions, said:

“Rùn tells a story of inclusivity and friendship, things that are important with all cultures and languages and it’s inspiring that we have again been recognised at the RTS Scotland Awards.”

BBC ALBA have taken part in the EBU drama scheme for a number of years and last year’s selection Buidheagain, also by Sorbier Productions, won Best Children’s Programme at the RTS Scotland Awards 2019.

Bill MacLeod, Commissioning Editor at MG ALBA, which operates BBC ALBA in partnership with the BBC, said:

“Our children’s content on BBC ALBA is fantastic and working with Sorbier we’ve managed to get some really beautiful films in the last few years.”

“We’re creating content that is universally relatable and appealing and working with international organisations and partners means we can bring our own audiences more diversity and original perspectives. Combining Gaelic and British Sign Language was a really important thing for us to do. It’s a sign of the skill of the writers, director and actors that you never stop to question the mix of languages – you just enjoy a wonderful story.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, there will be no formal ceremony to accompany this year’s RTS Scotland Awards, but winners will be announced 3 June 2020.

DRÀMA CHLOINNE BBC ALBA AIR AINMEACHADH AIRSON DUAIS RTS SCOTLAND

Tha BBC ALBA air àite a chosnadh air geàrr-liosta duaisean Royal Television Society (RTS) ALBA 2020 airson an dràma chloinne an-àbhaisteach, Rùn.

’S e sgeulachd anns am faighear togail agus tlachd a th’ ann an Rùn, le saoghal balach òg bodhar a’ sìor atharrachadh ri linn caraid ceithir-chasach ùr a tha a’ toirt dha a’ chlaisneachd nach robh a-riamh aige.

Tha duaisean RTS ALBA a’ comharrachadh sàr-mhathas ann an gnìomhachas telebhisein thar farsaingeachd de ghnèithean phrògraman agus sgilean craolaidh.

Tha am prògram air ainmeachadh ann an roinn na Cloinne, agus tha aodainn aithnichte cleasachd Ghàidhlig a’ nochdadh ann, leithid Carina NicLeòid agus Calum MacFhionghain.

Thèid an dràma goirid a shealltainn ann an Gàidhlig agus BSL (Cànan-Soighnidh Bhreatainn) air feadh na Roinn Eòrpa, mar phàirt de sgeama Aonadh Craolaidh Eòrpach (EBU).

Fhuair am prògram, a bha air a riochdachadh le Sorbier Productions à Glaschu, maoineachadh bhon mhaoin ùr Young Audience Content Fund (YACF), a tha air a stiùireadh le Institiud Film Bhreatainn (BFI).

Thuirt Patsi NicChoinnich, stiùiriche Sorbier Productions;

“Tha Rùn a’ toirt seachad sgeulachd chàirdeas agus ion-ghabhalachd, rudan a tha cudromach ann an gach cultar agus cànan, agus tha e misneachail gu bheil duaisean RTS air aire a thoirt dhan sin, agus dhuinne, a-rithist.”

Tha BBC ALBA air pàirt a ghabhail anns an sgeama dhràma aig an EBU airson grunn bhliadhnaichean, agus bhuannaich an taghadh aca an-uiridh, Buidheagain, a bha cuideachd le Sorbier Productions, an duais airson Prògram Chloinne as Fheàrr aig duaisean RTS Alba 2019.

Thuirt Uilleam MacLeòid, Deasaiche Coimiseanaidh MG ALBA, a tha a’ lìbhrigeadh BBC ALBA ann an co-bhanntachd leis a’ BhBC:

“Tha an susbaint chloinne air BBC ALBA dìreach mìorbhaileach, agus on a tha sinn air a bhith ag obair còmhla ri Sorbier, tha filmichean àlainn air a bhith againn thairis air na beagan bhliadhnaichean mu dheireadh.”

“Tha sinn a’ cruthachadh susbaint a bhuineas do gach seòrsa luchd-amhairc, agus le bhith ag obair còmhla ri buidhnean eadar-nàiseanta agus com-pàirtichean, tha sin a’ ciallachadh gum faod sinn barrachd iomadachd agus seallaidhean ùra a thoirt dhan luchd-amhairc againn fhèin. Bha e air leth cudromach dhuinn a bhith a’ toirt an dà chuid Gàidhlig agus BSL còmhla. Tha e a’ sealltainn sgil an stiùiriche, nan sgrìobhadairean agus nan cleasaichean nach eil bacadh ann bhon mheasgachadh de chànanan idir - ’s e sgeulachd iongantach a th’ ann gu h-iomlan”.

Ri linn suidheachadh a’ Choròna-bhìorais, cha bhi cuirm dhuaisean RTS Alba ann am-bliadhna, ach thèid na buannaichean ainmeachadh air 3 Ògmhios 2020.
