Scottish first for MG ALBA

MG ALBA (The Gaelic Media Service) has become the first Gaelic organisation in Scotland to have achieved the Investors in Young People (IIYP) standard at Silver level and was presented with the award by Dr Alasdair Allan MSP, the Scottish Government Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland's Languages in Stornoway today (Monday 19 October). During his visit Dr Allan met with some of MG ALBA’s young talent who outlined their different roles within the organisation and who reflected on some of the wide and varied opportunities presented to them by MG ALBA as part of its commitment to attracting young people into Gaelic broadcasting and for developing their potential. Also in attendance were Maggie Cunningham Chairperson of MG ALBA and Claire MacLeod, Director of the Orbit Agency in Stornoway which provides Human Resources consultancy services to MG ALBA.

Dr Allan congratulated MG ALBA saying: “I am delighted to have been able to present MG ALBA with the Investors in Young People award and to have heard first-hand about some of the opportunities for professional and language development offered to young people as they seek to pursue a career in Gaelic broadcasting. I congratulate MG ALBA on their commitment to attracting young people into their workforce and on becoming the first Gaelic organisation in Scotland to have achieved the Investors in Young People standard at Silver level.”

Maggie Cunningham said: “Everybody at MG ALBA is delighted to see the organisation being recognised as an Investor in Young People and also that we are the first Gaelic organisation in Scotland to have achieved Silver status – and one of only nine organisations from throughout Scotland to have been accredited at this level. MG ALBA has always been committed to attracting young Gaelic-speaking talent into broadcasting and the Investors in Young People award recognises that commitment which includes FilmG, our links with the broadcasting industry throughout Scotland and internationally and also our relationships with organisations such as Skills Development Scotland and UHI.”

Investors in Young People is a quality framework designed to help employers meet their business goals by harnessing the creativity and skills of young people and is managed by Investors in People Scotland. MG ALBA is also an accredited Investors in People organisation.

MG ALBA a’ cosnadh duais Creideas nar Cosnaichean Òga

Tha MG ALBA air inbhe airgid ann an Creideas nar Cosnaichean Òga (IiYP) a chosnadh, a’ chiad buidheann Gàidhlig air an deach seo a bhuileachadh, agus chaidh an duais a thoirt seachad le Ministear Riaghaltas na h-Alba airson Ionnsachaidh, Saidheans agus Cànain na h-Alba, An t-Oll Alasdair Allan BPA, ann an Steòrnabhagh. Air a thuras, choinnich e ri cuid de thàlant òg MG ALBA, a thug sealladh dha air na h-obraichean aca sa bhuidheann agus na cothroman a tha am buidheann a’ tairgse dhaibh mar phàirt den dealas aca a bhith a’ tàladh dhaoine òga gu craoladh Gàidhlig agus a’ leasachadh nan sgilean aca. An làthair cuideachd bha Magaidh Choineagan, Cathraiche MG ALBA, agus Claire NicLeòid, Stiùiriche Orbit Agency ann an Steòrnabhagh a bhios a’ toirt seachad seirbheisean taic HR do MG ALBA.

Chuir An t-Oll Allan meal-a-naidheachd air MG ALBA, ag ràdh: “Tha mi cho toilichte gu robh e comasach dhomh duais IiYP a thoirt do MG ALBA agus a bhith a’ cluinntinn mun dà chuid na cothroman proifeasanta agus an leasachadh cànain a tha air a thairgse do dhaoine òga fhad ’s a tha iad a’ leantainn dreuchd ann an craoladh Gàidhlig. Tha mi a’ cur meal-a-naidheachd air MG ALBA airson na tha iad a’ dèanamh gus dhaoine òga a thàladh chun sgioba aca agus a bhith mar a’ chiad buidheann Gàidhlig ann an Alba a tha air duais airgid IiYP a chosnadh”.

Thuirt Magaidh Choineagan: “Tha a h-uile duine aig MG ALBA cho toilichte gu bheil am buidheann air aithne fhaighinn airson IiYP agus gu bheil sinn mar a’ chiad buidheann Gàidhlig ann an Alba a choisinn inbhe airgid – agus fear a-mach à dìreach naoi buidhnean bho air feadh Alba a tha air an duais seo fhaighinn. Tha MG ALBA air a bhith daonnan a’ strì gus daoine òga le Gàidhlig a thàladh gu craoladh Gàidhlig agus tha duais IiYP ag aithneachadh an dealais sin, a’ gabhail a-steach FilmG, ar ceanglaichean leis a’ ghnìomhachais craolaidh air feadh Alba agus gu h-eadar-nàiseanta agus ar càirdeas le buidhnean leithid Skills Development Scotland agus UHI.”
