BBC ALBA’s BANNAN AMONGST THE NOMINATIONS FOR CELTIC MEDIA FESTIVAL 2015

BBC ALBA’s acclaimed new drama Bannan has been shortlisted alongside Sherlock and Shetland in the drama series award at this year’s Celtic Media Festival.

Bannan, which is the first original drama produced for the channel since BBC ALBA started broadcasting in 2008, was co-funded by MG ALBA and Creative Scotland. The series debuted at the Edinburgh Film Festival 2014 before being shown on the channel last September.

MG ALBA has welcomed the shortlisting of Bannan alongside nominations for a number of other BBC ALBA programmes including Cunnart, Bean a' Mhinisteir (The Minister’s Wife), Michelle Aig A' Mhòd (Michelle at the Mod) and Gaol@Gael.

And for the first time, a film produced for MG ALBA’s FilmG competition has been nominated, with Latha Eile, Saoghal Eile (Another Day, Another Life) shortlisted in the short drama category.

The Celtic Media Festival returns to Scotland this year, with Inverness hosting the annual three day event that promotes the languages and cultures of the Celtic Nations and Regions in media.

Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA, said: “We are delighted that this year’s Celtic Media Festival has once again shortlisted so many BBC ALBA programmes. It has been another exception year for the channel and it is wonderful to see recognition across a host of award categories.

“In particular, the transmission of Bannan marked another milestone as the first original drama created for the channel since BBC ALBA started broadcasting in 2008. The series has been very well received by both our Gaelic and non-Gaelic speaking audience and it is exciting to see credit also been given to Bannan from professionals within the industry.

“We are also delighted with the nomination for Latha Eile, Saoghal Eile (Another Day, Another Life) in the short drama category. This is the first film entered into our national Gaelic film competition – FilmG – that has been nominated for an award at the Celtic Media Festival. This is an exceptional achievement and underlines the value that FilmG provides in creating a platform for young media talent across Scotland to flourish.

“Together, the nominations demonstrate the continuing success and value that indigenous language platforms can achieve within the wider media landscape.

“BBC ALBA’s programming continues to attract both Gaelic and non-Gaelic audiences and the channel prides itself in commissioning high quality programmes from production companies across Scotland. We would like to offer our congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted as we hopefully look forward to success at the festival in Inverness.”
