MG ALBA WELCOMES BBC ALBA NOMINATIONS IN THIS YEAR’S CELTIC MEDIA FESTIVAL

10 BBC ALBA PRODUCTIONS SHORTLISTED

MG ALBA has expressed its delight at the announcement that several of BBC ALBA’s programmes have been short-listed for awards at the Celtic Media Festival 2012.

The 33rd Celtic Media Festival taking place from 18 – 20 April, which this year revisits the Irish city of Derry, will see the Celtic broadcasting and media world come together to celebrate the languages and cultures of the Celtic countries on screen and in broadcasting.

Some 400 nominations were received for the awards across 19 categories with ten BBC ALBA productions being shortlisted across several different award categories.

Shortlisted BBC ALBA programmes include:

Factual Entertainment:

  • ‘Dannsa Beò: Dance Live’ – an exciting series offering a unique snapshot of dance illustrating that as a nation, Scotland is dancing - Produced by Margot McCuaig of mneTV

 

Factual Single:

  • ‘Fuil nan Innseanach: Transatlantic Ties’ - In this story of the enduring power of family ties over generations, Iain Morrison travels from his home in Lewis, to Orkney and Canada in search of his roots within Canada's aboriginal community. Produced by Christine Morrison of Corcadal Productions Ltd
  • ‘Reiteach: Betrothal’ – Two island weddings, 50 years apart. A grandmother sees her wedding film for the very first time. Produced by Diane MacLean and Patsi Mackenzie of Sorbier Productions Ltd

Sport:

  • ‘Ralaidh Chaluim: Calum's Rally’ –Rally Driving is fast and dangerous, but for Calum George Buchanan it's in his blood.– Produced by Ann Morrison of MacTV

 

Current Affairs:

  • ‘Eòrpa: Belarus’ – investigative report on the final weeks of the presidential election in December 2010 - Produced by Hedda MacLeod of BBC Scotland

Now that the channel is available on Freeview, our programmes are being enjoyed by a wider Gaelic and non-Gaelic audience who are showing a real appetite for the rich Scottish content that’s not available on any other television platform.

MG ALBA also congratulates BBC Radio nan Gàidheal which, in addition to being nominated in the Radio Station of the Year category, has received nominations for ‘Eileanaich – Barraigh’ and ‘Cogadh Golz’ in the Best Radio Documentary award, while popular presenter Morag MacDonald has been nominated in the Radio Presenter/Personality category.
