Abadas series released on first ever bilingual Gaelic/Welsh DVD

A DVD of the popular children's series Abadas has been released for young viewers to enjoy in Scotland, Wales and further afield.

This is the first Abadas DVD and also the first DVD to offer viewers the option of watching with a Gaelic or Welsh audio track.

The DVD is produced by Sain and commissioned by Dinamo, who produce the series for S4C and BBC ALBA.

The series is produced by Dinamo Productions and Kavaleer in association with S4C, BBC ALBA, CBeebies and RTE. The series was launched on all four channels in October 2011 and has quickly become a firm favourite with the young viewers.

The DVD was launched at the National Eisteddfod in the Vale of Glamorgan last week, and is available to buy from the Sain website www.sainwales.com.

Margaret Cameron BBC ALBA said “We’re delighted to be involved in the Abadas DVD. The series and DVD have been great models of collaboration for us delivering a creative outcome for both S4C and BBC ALBA with fantastic support from RTE, CBeebies, Dinamo, Obh Obh Productions and Sain. I’m sure the DVD will go on to entertain Gaelic and Welsh-speaking children for years to come”.

Sioned Wyn Roberts, S4C Children's Commissioner, says, "It's great to see a popular Cyw series on DVD. In this case, the demand for producing a dual language DVD in Welsh and Gaelic is testimony to the series' success outside of Wales. I very much hope to see similar ventures in the future as we seek further opportunity to co-operate with other broadcasters."

Executive Producer Siwan Jobbins, from Dinamo Productions says, "We are very proud of the programmes' success on the international stage. We, together with our distributing partner Ho Ho Rights, are currently discussing with several international companies to develop further merchandise.

"This unique DVD is one of the first merchandise for us to launch – in co-operation with Sain and MG ALBA. This is the first time for a DVD to be launched with the option to watch with a Welsh or Gaelic language track. We hope it will bring hours of pleasure for Cyw fans and young viewers of BBC ALBA."
